Characteristics of moonstone
Moonstone (adularia, belomorite, djandarakand, selenite, hecatolite) is a translucent bluish-silver gemstone. Most often it is feldspar.
Moonstones include stones that shimmer in blue or silvery-white - such effects are called opalescence and iridescence. Also, some archery stones have a mother-of-pearl luster. It is for this reason that adularia and selenite are classified as moonstones, although only adularia is considered to be a real moonstone.
In India, moonstones are called "jandarakand", which means "moonlight". The moonstone has another name - belomorite. Also, this gemstone has another beautiful name - selenite.
The color of moonstones is milky white, with a golden shimmer from the inside and even purple.
The moonstone is the state gemstone of Florida. This happened after the moon landing in 1970 - the expedition launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
How much does a moonstone cost
Moonstone prices are very different. The cost of small stones is from 5 to 20 dollars. However, large moon rocks are valued at $30 and up. The best moonstones can reach $200-300 in price. Blue moonstones are valued above all.
